Perceptions and Implications of China’s New Global Initiatives in Southeast Europe

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Office in Skopje together, the WMCES, the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus” - Skopje and the Association for Strategy Development, Research, Education and Promotion of International Values – ESTIMA are organizing the first panel discussion in the frame of this year's Cathedra Adenauer.

The panel discussion on the topic “Perceptions and Implications of China’s New Global Initiatives in Southeast Europe.” will take place on 05 October 2026 (Monday), starting at 12:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Room-NNS of the Faculty of Law "Iustinianus Primus" – Skopje.

The initiative aims to bring together academics, policymakers, researchers, students as well as representatives from the international community on the country, to discuss the growing impact of China's recent global initiatives and their implications for Southeast Europe. Particular attention will be devoted to the strategic, political and economic dimensions of China's engagement in the region and the perceptions these initiatives generate among regional stakeholders.

Cathedra Adenauer is a scientific and educational platform where students, experts, academics and stakeholders discuss and share their views on current topics related to the European Union, the general challenges facing the European continent, and topics related to EU enlargement and the Western Balkans region.

The event will be officially opened by Daniel Braun, Official Representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Katerina Jakimovska, Senior Project Officer at the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies in Brussels, and Prof. Dr. Saso Georgievski, Dean of the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus” in Skopje. 

On this occasion, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and its partners will also present our recent publication on the same title, “Perceptions and Implications of China’s New Global Initiatives in Southeast Europe.”

The key findings of the research will be presented by Dr. Ana Krstinovska from the ESTIMA Think Tank, who appears among the authors of the research paper, followed by a panel discussion featuring Prof. Dr. Vasko Naumovski from the Faculty of Law Iustinianus Primus - Skopje, Rashela Mizrahi, Member of Parliament and member of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), and Dr. Anastas Vangeli, Assistant Professor at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana.

Working languages of the event will be Macedonian and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided.
