The Prime Minister displayed his interest for the political situation within the Palestinian Autonomous Territories and the future of the peace process between Israel and Palestine. After a briefing by the head of the German Representative Office in Ramallah, Prof Dr. Milbradt received further information from a representative of the Palestinian Negotiation Support Unit (NSU), a think tank of the PLO for negotiations with Israel. In the course of his remarks, the representative of NSU focused especially on Israel’s growing settlement activities inside the occupied Palestinian Territories and the course of the separation barrier. The Prime Minister expressed his concerns, that this trend could hinder an enduring peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
A walk through the Old City of Jerusalem and a visit to the holy places of the three world religions, gave an impression of the coexistence of religions in the Holy City.
At the subsequent reception of the Prime Minister for representatives from politics, economics and the civil society, the opportunity for continuative conversations, among others with representatives of the Palestinian economy, was afforded.
