DIG Briefed on Political Situation in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories and KAS Activities

In the framework of a visit, a delegation of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) Frankfurt was briefed on the Palestinian political and economic situation. During a meeting, Jörg Ranau, head of the German Representative Office in Ramallah, illustrated the development of the peace process. Other topics discussed were the political situation and the commitment of Germany and the European Union in accompanying the democratic state-building process in the Palestinian Territories.

Thomas Birringer, head of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ramallah, informed the members of the DIG about the current situation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Moreover, he defined the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ramallah, especially in the fields of rule of law, political education and democracy promotion. At a subsequent briefing with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations (OCHA), the group of visitors was given an insight into the humanitarian impact of the barrier Israel is building along the West Bank. A visit of the barrier added to these impressions. The program was rounded off by a visit of Ramallah and institutions of the Palestinian Authority.
