The majority of the Palestinian population is dipleased with Hamas

In the eyes of the population corruption in the PA even during the Fatah era did not seem to be as grave as under today’s Hamas government. This is one of the results of an opinion poll conducted in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation.

According to the poll, the majority (54%) of the Palestinians is not satisfied with the Hamas government. With regard to the economical situation even 69% reject the government. Nevertheless, 38% of the people asked still said that they would vote for Hamas, if there were new elections. The popularity of Fatah, in contrast to the results of the elections in January 2006, is today even higher than that of Hamas. 41% of the participants stated that they consider Fatah the best Palestinian political party. There is also a relative consensus among the Palestinians concerning the question, if Hamas should recognize Israel or not. 66% indicated that Hamas should not, and 30% declared it should recognize Israel.
