Based on the principle of good governance, the objective of the project was to strengthen the efficiency and the expertise of local politicians, in order to contribute to a peaceful solution of local conflicts. These objectives have been implemented by means of specific training programs and workshops that were being offered in the respective regions from October 2007 to April 2008.

The selected members of the city- and district councils, as well as employees of the municipality administration have already started with implementing their new experiences in so-called long-term strategies in cooperation with their supervisors. Others have even invited their supervisors to visit them in their municipalities and accomplish an evaluation of their daily work. Additionally, as multipliers they are currently trying to forward their new experiences to others being involved in local politics.

In his speech the director of the Institute for Community Partnership(ICP), Moussa Rabadi, underlined the motivation and commitment of the participants and welcomed the long-standing support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

Thomas Birringer, resident representative of KAS to the Palestinian Territories, emphasized the importance of local politics for the development of any country with reference to the Federal Republic of Germany. Efficiency and good governance on a local level are the key to reforms on the national level. Furthermore, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, together with the ICP, is committed to contribute to the improvement of good governance on the local level.
