Officially entitled, 'Handog ng Overseas Filipino Forum', this event, co-organized with the AIM Policy Center, will tackle the overseas Filipino's role as conduit for harnessing networks for development and competitiveness.

Senator Edgardo Angara stressed the importance of improving the educational system in the country’s pursuit of an innovative environment.

Angara made the statement during the annual forum on Global Pinoy for National Competitiveness on Dec. 13. He said the Philippines should follow the lead of India, which reached economic prosperity by investing in basic infrastructure, providing support for small and medium scale enterprises through technical assistance, and supporting public institutions that drive a culture of innovation.

Angara also cited successful Filipinos abroad who choose to share their knowledge to their home country, the Philippines. He also stressed that overseas Filipinos should not just be remitters but also serve as conduits for knowledge transfer. He recommended the relaunch of the Science and Technology Advisory Council which should aim motivate overseas Filipinos to come home and train fellow Filipinos.

The annual Handog ng Overseas Filipino Forum was organized by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center, institutional partner of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
