Climate change and sustainability is a major concern not just globally but also for Hong Kong. Being one of the most densely populated cities in the world, reducing climate change and improving sustainability is of great importance.
This one day meeting will bring together local climate leaders from business, government, NGO's and others to create a better understanding and shared vision of climate action in Hong Kong using a Talanoa Dialogue adopted by the United nations at the COP 23 climate talks.
Talanoa is a traditional word used in Fiji and across the Pacific to reflect a process of inclusive, participatory and transparent dialogue. Here in Hong Kong, it will bring together people from all sectors of society to discuss a vision of a sustainable Hong Kong, with ideas on how we can work together to get there. The aims of the dialogue will center around trust-building, storytelling and mutual understanding and a greater clarity about where we are now, where want to go and how different organizations can work together to leverage our work on HK climate change issues.
The Talanoa process gives us the opportunity to prepare observations for submission to the Talanoa Dialogue Online Platform ahead of the UN COP 24 climate talks in Katowice, Poland in December 2018.
