Details

The establishment of the Shura Council as the legislative power in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the reign of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa in the 1930s remains a milestone in the Kingdom’s history. Ever since, parliamentarism has been an integral part of Bahrain’s political system and hence an important link between state and society. Moreover, over the years the Shura Council has played a remarkable role in terms of supporting political decision-making and creating a relatively well functioning political environment by the use of legislative acts and processes.

Aiming at the transfer of knowledge and expertise as well as exchanging ‘lessons learned’, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Gulf States Office is organising a workshop for 15 members of the Shura Council on ‘The Role of Assemblies in Shaping the Legislative Power: Cases from Germany and Europe’ in cooperation with the Shura Council of Bahrain. It will be held in Manama from 15th to 16th of February 2016. The event intends to strengthen law-making processes and organs, and aims at the improvement of the legislative assembly performance.
