Details

Since over 50% of the Omani population are under the age of 25, the count of young Omanis entering the labour market far outnumbers the available jobs. Therefore the urgency to include the young generation into the process of shaping the future becomes all the more apparent. In the light of this development, the Sultanate is striving to diversify its economy particularly by promoting the private sector.

Since small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can pave the way for the integration of young Omanis into the labour market and open new doors towards a successful economic development, fostering SMEs has become a priority on the agenda of Omani decision-makers. Social entrepreneurship can serve here as a model to enhance sustainable and innovative development for Omani youth.

The seminar offers the opportunity for SQU economics students as well as young Omani entrepreneurs to become familiar with the concept and working methods of social entrepreneurship which are capable of catalysing the diversification process in Oman.
