Since none of the interviewees are with us today, these are also the last words of these unfortunate figures of history. The volume is a project of the Contemporary History Research Centre (CSIC), published with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The editor is Alin Mureșan.

The testimonies in this volume are an indispensable element in the attempt (perhaps unsuccessfully) to truly understand what happened in Pitesti prison between 1949 and 1951. Too often we lack the exercise of listening to those around us, especially when we do not share their opinions. But dialogue is essential to reconcile us with our past, both as individuals and as a society still deeply influenced by the traumas of communism.
