“Emergency Backpack – Civic Education for Resilience and Community Preparedness”.
Bucharest, November 16, 2025 - SAFE RO Association launches the project “Emergency Backpack – Civic Education for Resilience and Community Preparedness”, an educational traveling program that will reach 15 localities in Romania between November 1 and December 15, 2025, involving over 350 students.
The program is coordinated by Mircea Barbu, war journalist and founder of SAFE RO, carried out in partnership with the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) and supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Mircea transforms the experience gained in conflict zones into applied civic education for Romanian society, contributing to increasing the culture of prevention and response in crisis situations.
Involvement of ISU rescuers
To bring a practical and authentic perspective, rescuers from the emergency inspectorates of Teleorman, Arad, Timișoara, Cluj Napoca, Suceava, Tulcea and Bucharest counties will also participate in each workshop. They will conduct demonstrations, provide explanations about the correct behavior in case of earthquake, fire or flood and answer students' questions. The presence of firefighters contributes to strengthening trust between the community and the intervention structures and to learning directly from professionals the principles of safety and rapid response.
🎒 What is the "Emergency Backpack"?
The workshops teach students how to prepare their own emergency backpack - a kit with essential items for the first 72 hours after a disaster: documents, water, non-perishable food, flashlight, radio, medical kit, medicines, clothing, external battery, etc.
At the end, participants receive an embroidered badge, and later the schools organize a "Resilience Fair", where students present their backpacks and the information they learned.
