As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen political dialogue between Germany, Europe and South Africa, Member of the German Bundestag Roland Theis visited South Africa for a series of engagements with policymakers, researchers, and young leaders.
The central objective of the visit was to explore opportunities for further strengthening relations between South Africa and Germany, as well as between South Africa and Europe more broadly. Against the backdrop of significant geopolitical shifts, discussions focused on the importance of maintaining strong international partnerships and fostering dialogue on shared global challenges.
During his programme, Mr Theis met with representatives from leading South African think tanks and engaged with political stakeholders to gain insights into current political and foreign policy developments. He also met with KAS scholarship holders, providing an opportunity for an exchange with the next generation of South African leaders on domestic and international issues.
A particular focus of the discussions was the future of multilateralism and the changing international order. Participants reflected on how global institutions can remain effective in addressing transnational challenges and examined the role of middle powers in shaping emerging forms of international cooperation.
