The South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law (SAIFAC), a centre of the University of Johannesburg, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, invite you to a colloquium focusing on equality. The South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law (SAIFAC), is committed to advancing rigorous, critical scholarship that strengthens constitutional democracy, promotes human rights, and contributes to social justice in South Africa, Africa, and beyond. In line with SAIFAC’s mandate to interrogate law’s capacity to respond to systemic injustice and to bridge the gap between constitutional promise and lived reality, SAIFAC convenes an Equality Colloquium.

The colloquium seeks to foreground constitutional and human rights-based approaches to understanding and addressing inequality, with a particular emphasis on substantive equality, intersectionality, and structural injustice. It aims to create a scholarly forum in which participants critically assess how constitutional, international, and regional legal frameworks respond to contemporary forms of inequality, where they fall short, and how they may be reimagined to better realise the transformative commitments embedded in equality guarantees.

The colloquium dates are as follows:

DATE: 4th - 5th August, 2026

VENUE: UJ, STH Buntting Road Campus, Kerzner conference Room

RSVP: Please RSVP to Naomi Hove (naomi@saifac.org.za)
