This debate aims to steer conversations that will:
(i)Foster appreciation and motivate young people to engage actively in youth organizations
(ii)Generate cross-cutting recommendations on building cooperation and effectiveness among organization working with youth in democratic governance.
The above focus draws on points from the successor debate round where is was emphasized that besides young people not being active in organizations, existing youth agencies operate under the dynamics of competition as opposed to cooperation. Competition within and between organizations hinders the ability of agents within these organizations from focusing on a common set of goals, undermines their organization capability, and subsequently inhibits their capacity to exploit the youth demographic advantage to influence decision making processes to respond to youth interests.
Thus, the proposed youth debate forum in Jinja will seek to foster interdependence among youth organizations and ultimately strengthen representation of youth interests in the political and governance processes. The debates will be organized by University Forum on Governance (UNIFOG) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenaur-Stiftung (KAS) Foundation.
