President Joe Biden has announced to recommit the United States to multilateralism, cooperation with the European allies, and global alliances.

An Agenda for U.S. Election Cybersecurity

William T. Adler and Mallory Knodel are with the Center for Democracy & Technology, a non-partisan, non-profit U.S.-based civil society organization that works globally to defend human rights and civil liberties online. In this report for KAS, they explore the challenges of maintaining security in U.S. elections and how election officials and policymakers might best address them. While focused on American elections, they hope that some of the findings can also provide guidance for other countries.

Peter Rough is a senior fellow at Hudson Institute, where he writes and comments on U.S. foreign policy. We asked him to analyze how the U.S. and Europe deal with China and he argues for joint action: “Together, the United States and Europe have unparalleled advantages against any competitor.”

The Trade Agenda for the 46th U.S. President –Advancing Global Economic Order?

As Joe Biden takes office as the 46th President of the United States the country is at a turning point in its trade policy, one where rules are likely to move to the forefront. A key question is whether in response to the weakening of the nearly 75-year old multilateral trading system the United States will lead a concerted effort with like-minded economies to create high-standard rules that will help prevent the deconstruction of the trading system into competing blocs of laws, standards, and norms.

This report summarizes some of the trends we’ve seen and evaluates where they currently stand. Most promising are Australia’s efforts to get Google and Facebook to pay for news and efforts in the U.S. to get laws and investment that would support local news.
