Under the theme "A Foreign Policy Compass for a New Political Era: Strategy and Germany's Global Responsibility," the program explored Germany's evolving international role amid geopolitical competition, growing security challenges, and mounting pressure on the rules-based international order.
In Washington D.C., the delegation met with representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the Department of Defense, the U.S. Senate, and the House of Representatives. Topics included Germany's role in U.S. strategy toward Europe, NATO and transatlantic security, cybersecurity, hybrid threats, intelligence cooperation, the Western Balkans, and developments in Latin America. Exchanges with foreign-policy experts, German media representatives, and young professionals from the Alexander Hamilton Society complemented the political meetings with perspectives from outside government.
In Philadelphia, the delegation joined the Foreign Policy Research Institute for a podcast and a public panel on "Zeitenwende in Action: Germany's Future Role in NATO Security." Meetings with German-American organizations also highlighted the cultural and civic ties that underpin the transatlantic partnership beyond government.
The program concluded in New York with discussions on transatlantic trade, UN reform, multilateralism, and Germany's responsibility for strengthening the international order, including an exchange with Guy Ryder, UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy. Participation in the German-American Steuben Parade provided a fitting conclusion to a week that brought together policymakers, experts, business representatives, young professionals, and German-American communities across three cities.
