Dr. Lars Hänsel, head of the Department Europe/North America, was in Washington, DC for meetings about the challenges and opportunities for transatlantic relations in 2020 and to discuss the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung's work in Europe. Dr. Hänsel met with thought leaders and think tank experts to explore common ground and plan for future collaborations.

F.A.Z.- KAS Debate
Please join us for a F.A.Z.–KAS Debate at the Newseum to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The debate, in collaboration with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, will feature an esteemed panel of German and U.S. experts and era witnesses, including Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, former President of the German Parliament and Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, and Robert Zoellick, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and lead senior U.S. official in the Two-plus-Four negotiations for German Unification. You are invited to a reception following the discussion. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Newseum before it closes its doors. Here you will find the largest segment of the Berlin Wall outside of Germany and explore other Newseum exhibits.

Join us for a luncheon lecture in collaboration with the German-American Heritage Museum in Washington, D.C. honoring Germany's national holiday and the 30th anniversary year of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the entire iron curtain that separated Western Europe from Soviet-controlled Eastern Europe. The speaker, Dr. Michael Braun, is the head of the Department of Literature at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, and a professor at the University of Cologne.

Can the U.S. and Allies Agree on WTO Reform?
Discussion from a transatlantic and Japanese Perspective
On the occasion of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung supported publication of the study “The Importance of WTO Reform from a Transatlantic Perspective” by Thomas J. Duesterberg (Ph.D.) at the Hudson Institute, a conference convened where a panel of experts discussed the necessity and the progress of the WTO reform. The keynote speaker was Stephen P. Vaughn, General Counsel of the U.S. Trade Representative Office. At the WTO ministerial meeting in Buenos Aires in December 2017, the US, the EU and Japan came to agree that reforms and innovations in the regulatory framework are needed. Negotiations are currently under way between these countries. The experts discussed the progress made during the event.
