Restoring Lebanon’s Forests in a Changing Climate

On June 19, 2025, the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) , in partnership of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation KAS , the Association for Forests, Development and Conservation (AFDC), and the IUCN National Committee and with the support the Ministry of Agriculture, hosted a national conference on reforestation at Radisson Blu Verdun, Beirut. Held under the patronage and presence of H.E. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani, the event convened experts, institutions, and practitioners to assess progress since 2012 and update Lebanon’s reforestation guidelines in light of climate change and recent scientific findings. Sessions addressed legal frameworks, post-fire recovery, species selection, and sustainability practices. A panel discussion and working groups allowed stakeholders to exchange insights and shape practical restoration strategies. The event underscored a collective commitment to preserving Lebanon’s forest heritage and enhancing its resilience to environmental challenges.
