The recent attacks in Paris, Jakarta, Brussels, Dhaka and Nice are indicators of the rising terror threats in Europe and Asia. While calls for tighter security measures have become stronger, it is necessary to enhance international cooperation and contain terrorism and extremism through comprehensive actions by all stakeholders. In its second year, the initiative of KAS the Australian Strategic Policy Institute offered a unique opportunity for policy makers, representatives of ministries as well as law enforcement units and experts from the academia to have an exchange on current developments and collaborative activities in the field of counter terrorism. Special attention was given to countering violent extremism, the home-grown phenomenon: lone wolves, inspired attacks and foreign fighters, lessons learned from attacks and disruptions and border security. Counter Terrorism Co-Ordinator Tony Sheehan delivered a keynote speech on the current challenges that Australia is facing.
