Indien: Euch wird nie langweilig!
Hallo, mein Name ist Matthias und ich arbeite für 3 Monate als Praktikant im Büro der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Indien. In Deutschland ist recht wenig über das Land bekannt und taucht Indien einmal in den Nachrichten auf, sind diese zumeist negativ. Ich hatte jedoch bereits zuvor ein Jahr in Indien verbracht und ließ mich davon nicht abschrecken, denn der Subkontinent bedeutet vor allem eines: eine Vielfalt, der kein Fernsehbericht so schnell gerecht wird. Das betrifft die Sprachen, Religionen, Armut und Reichtum, die regional unterschiedlichen Essenstraditionen (wenn aber eines die indische Küche eint, dann die Schärfe!) und vieles mehr, dass die Welt dort viel bunter macht als man es aus Europa kennt. Indien kann deshalb eine Herausforderung sein, oft aber einfach ein großes Abenteuer.
Leben in Neu-Delhi: Ganz bestimmt keine Stadt wie jede andere
Die Wohnungssuche ist nicht ganz einfach, denn günstig ist die Hauptstadt nicht, besonders die Gegend in der das KAS-Büro liegt. Das Metro-System der Stadt funktioniert aber gut und wird weiter ausgebaut, man kommt also auch aus weiter entfernten Stadtteilen schnell und günstig zur Arbeit. Wohnungen und Zimmer findet man auf verschiedenen Websites, ich selbst habe meine WG über eine Facebook-Gruppe gefunden. Neu-Delhi kann eine extreme Stadt sein, z.B. weil im Sommer Temperaturen deutlich über 40 Grad herrschen oder die Luftverschmutzung zu bestimmten Zeiten die vermutlich schlimmste der Welt ist. Aber nicht nur das macht Delhi einzigartig. Die großen Museen des Landes und das Rote Fort stehen hier. Neu-Delhi ist auch eine Stadt voller Studenten und einem guten Nachtleben in Vierteln wie Hauz Khas. Das Weltwunder Taj Mahal in Agra kann man in einem Tagesausflug besuchen. Wer Glück hat findet eine Wohnung mit Dachterrasse, die meiste Zeit des Jahres kann man dort bis spät die kühlen Nächte genießen.
Arbeiten für die KAS in Indien
Aus Deutschland kannte ich die politischen Stiftungen vor allem für ihr Engagement im Bereich politischer Bildung. Für ein Praktikum bei der KAS habe ich mich einerseits interessiert, weil ich auch die Arbeit der Auslandsbüros kennenlernen wollte. Besonders die Themenschwerpunkte Wirtschafts-, Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik sprachen mich an, weil sie schon Teil meines Studiums der Internationalen Beziehungen waren.
Vom Team des KAS Auslandsbüros Indien wurde ich sehr freundlich aufgenommen. Als Praktikant übernimmt man unterschiedlichste Aufgaben. Veranstaltungen mit indischen Partnern und deutschen Gästen müssen für die Website dokumentiert werden. Ich durfte auch administrative Aufgaben übernehmen, die bei der Vorbereitung von Veranstaltungen und im Büroalltag anfallen. Übersetzung von Texten und eine Rede schreiben gehören auch dazu. Wichtiger Bestandteil der Arbeit sind die Länderberichte, Analysen indischer Politik für interessierte Bürger und deutsches Fachpublikum. Recherchen dazu und das eigenständige Verfassen der Texte sind auch Teil meines Praktikums.
Fazit
Insgesamt habe ich meine Praktikumszeit in Neu-Delhi sehr genossen. Es gibt hier vieles zu sehen und zu tun, das einem aus Deutschland völlig unbekannt ist. Die Arbeit im Büro der KAS Indien machte Spaß und hat mir spannende Einblicke in die Arbeit der Stiftung aber auch eine Perspektive auf das Land gegeben, die ich vorher noch nicht hatte.
