Emerging technologies have been gaining ground as drivers of growth and development. Development solutions have the potential to improve the competitiveness of the regions, reduce asymmetries between and within countries and help in tackling some problematic issues.

Identifying and fostering replicable good practices constitute a powerful and flexible initiative that, through cooperation, different actors can obtain greater development benefits than if they operate on their own or produce these benefits at lower cost.

In search for comparative gains in scale and efficiency, some of the emerging technologies have been changing landscape of the energy sector, especially when it comes to renewable sources. Those technologies have enabled new approaches and solutions to old issues and constraints, which positioned them as real pivots in this scenario. Among these major techs, it is important to highlight some of the most popular ones: Artificial Intelligence; Internet of Things; Blockchain.

This workshop gathers experts from the energy sector, technology experts, and start-ups that are developing solutions on emerging technologies applied to the renewable energy sector and representatives from small and medium municipalities. The main goal is to contact actors in the field to try to measure what is a replicable/adaptable project. The collection of these perspectives is central for the development of the project methodology.

On day 1 we will organize a Preparatory Workshop for participants to establish a baseline (regarding emerging technologies), and on day 2, we would organize the Methodology Workshop to develop an appropriate method that will be used to select and present the initiatives that will feature in the Report

The project aims to identify a number of initiatives on the renewable energy sector focus in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico that uses emerging technologies to enhance its efficiency and scalability. Those initiatives should have relative small size, in order to allow them to be replicated or adapted in other contexts, especially small localities/cities.
