Throughout 2013, the Konrad- Adenauer-Stiftung in London and the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King's College, London, will organise a series of workshops addressing the broad theme of ‘Building Resilient Energy Infrastructure’. We are grateful to also work with ACATECH from Germany on this project.

In our second workshop this year, the topic for discussion was Resilient energy Infrastructure in Europe and Beyond. We were very pleased to welcome Professor Dr Klaus Thoma, Head of the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Ernst-Mach-Institute in Germany and Dr Yolanda Garcia-Mezquita, Security of Supply & Networks, DG Energy, European Commission, as our main speakers.

Following the main presentations, there was a wide-ranging and informative debate from the diverse group of experts from a variety of fields. Taking in topics such as the fracking revolution, the economic challenges to sustainability, and the challenges for security of supply, the workshop built upon the important themese explored in our previous session in April.
