SAARC has been in existence for over two decades but its progress has been less than satisfactory. The grouping, however, is at a critical juncture with the realisation of the Free Trade Agreement and the induction of a new member and observers. Its prospects are better today than perhaps at any time in its history. Even as some countries are passing through degrees of political transition, each state is faring well economically with rising GDP growth rates and buoyancy in economic indicators. This potential can be harnessed to promote further growth and to remove socio-economic deprivations through developing greater connectivity in the region and by harmonising mutal strenghts.

A joint venture of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the India International Centre and the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, this book looks at the various problems and prospects of moving towards a greater connectivity in South Asia. Four aspects of connectivity - complementary infrastructure, trade in goods and services, energy, and people & ideas - are addressed. The book provides an outstanding compendium of issues and views pertaining to connectivity in South Asia.
