Aims and Objectives
AIM
To enhance the understanding about the Rule of Law and the role it plays in ordering society, sharing of systematized legal knowledge, information and experience in the context of Indian legal system.
OBJECTIVES
- To examine and understand the rule of law as a foundation of good governance
- Introduce the Indian constitutional framework and the Indian legal and judicial system
- Discuss methods and tools for application of legal enactments in delivery of justice and how to access them
- Discuss the role of judiciary as the custodian of rights.
The course would facilitate an increased awareness on the following:
- Rule of law situation in India
- Introduction to the Rights, Duties and Directive principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution
- Role of Judiciary as the guardian of Rights and the Constitution
- Basic principles and features of the Indian Criminal Justice system
- General understanding of how Rights and Obligations are enforced through civil laws
- Role of legal profession in maintaining rule of law.
