The objective of the course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the main contemporary challenges in Europe with a particular focus on its Southern region. Issues such as the future of the European Economic and Monetary Union, European Asylum System and fight against youth-unemployment will be debated against the background of the so-called European iden-tity: Do these policy-areas mirror the EU´s formal commitment to a set of common values such as democracy, peace, individual freedom and human rights or are they driven by mere economic and political interests of its member-states? Are there values shared by all EU-citizens? What do Europeans have in common? What is the future of European integration? For those interested in European politics the Summer School offers a unique opportunity to discuss these essential questions with experts and political actors in an open and international setting.
