Is Malaysia an Islamic state? What constitutes an Islamic state? What are the criteria, if any, that mark an Islamic state as such? What does the Malaysian Constitution have to say about Malaysian being an Islamic state? The above are just a sample of some of the issues raised within the framework of a discourse on the status of Malaysia as an Islamic state. Given the wide-ranging ramifications for every citizen in multicultural Malaysia with the emergence of this debate, it is imperative that the issue be accorded its due recognition and this publication hopes to offer another perspective on this important issue.
