How the New Election Law affects political parties

In December 2011, the Great State Assembly adopted a new election law. Until today, elections were held using a majority system only. Starting from June 2012, a new system accounting for both proportional and majority is going to be implemented.

The workshop featured discussions on topics such as the reform of the electoral system, its effect on political parties, the automated counting of votes, the role of election observers and organisational questions within electoral constituencies.

Civil Will/Green Party leaders Oyun S. and Enkhbat D., both Members of Parliament, attended the workshop and informed the participants about the current political situation. During the meeting, the new election system was discussed, in particular the proportional system and the country-wide counting of votes.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized this meeting together with the party headquarters of the Civil Will-Green Party, leading members and administrators of the Civil Will/Green Party from six districts of Ulaanbaatar.

The members and representatives were very pleased with the Supreme courts' final approval of the Civil Will and Green Party´s unification.
