Surge in Plastic Waste during COVID 19 and the Roadmap towards Sustainable Plastic Waste Management

Single-use plastic ban policy in Thailand has attracted public attention for the last few years. Its implementation started at the beginning of 2020 but many questions remain, for example: does this policy genuinely benefit the entire society? Could it potentially reframe waste management in the country or even completely change consumer behavior? Moreover, the plastic-free roadmap seems to face a new challenge now with the coronavirus pandemic that caused a drastic surge of plastic waste –not only from protective equipment but also from food delivery.       

The news agency Bangkok Tribune, supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Thailand, is organizing an online conference to discuss the impact of the plastic ban as well as a roadmap regarding plastic waste management, especially after the coronavirus outbreak. This is in the hope that tomorrow’s society can achieve sustainability-oriented management and policies.

This conference is the fifth of a series of Media Dialogues on current Thai, regional, and global developments organized by the Bangkok Tribune and the KAS. It will take place on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:00 onward (Bangkok Time) at SEA-Junction, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Facebook Live from the venue will start at 10:25 and the conference will be conducted in Thai language.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the conference either online or at the venue (in accordance with social distancing measures), and how to take part in the Q&A sessions with the panelists.
