ASPI-KAS Cybersecurity Fellowship: Exchanging Knowledge and Enhancing Cooperation

Isabel Skierka was the first German expert who came to Australia as part of our newly established ASPI-KAS Cybersecurity Fellowship.

KAS Australia and Pacific and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute have engaged in this new joint initiative in order to enhance cooperation on analysis of current cyber security challenges.

Isabel is research analyst and advisor with the Digital Society Institute at ESMT Berlin and also pursuing a PhD at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia. She is currently working on projects focusing on cybersecurity policy in Germany and Europe (including IoT security and safety), e-governance and public sector innovation, electronic identity management, and the role of digital platforms in society.

While in Australia, Isabel researched, published and presented on European cyber-security & supply chain challenges, data & privacy, 5G & Germany's Huawei dilemma.

From now on,twice a year a German cybersecurity expert will spend three weeks at ASPI’s International Cybersecurity Policy Centre. The aim is to pool expertise, exchange knowledge with Australian analysts and generate publications on current cybersecurity challenges that are of common interest to Australia and Germany/Europe.
