KAS Panel Discussion followed by Networking Lunch - 4 April, 2024 - Wellington, NZ (this event is in English only)

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung – Regional Programme for Australia and the Pacific (KAS Australia) is pleased to support a panel discussion followed by a networking luncheon on 4 April 2024 in Wellington. Moderated by KAS Australia’s Director, Bertil Wenger, the panel discussion will be concerned with “Emerging Democracies in Africa and the Pacific – Challenges in A World of Turmoil” and feature high level speakers from those regions. The event will be held in the context of the IDU Forum scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 April 2024 in New Zealand’s capital.

With the Indo-Pacific quickly gaining geo-political importance, it is vital in reciprocity to enhance understanding of the region to European stakeholders as well. The initiative is the culmination of a longstanding partnership between the ANU Centre for European Studies and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German political foundation with a regional representation in Canberra, covering Australia, New Zealand and 13 Pacific Island States.

3RD AUSTRALIA-EUROPE COUNTER-TERRORISM DIALOGUE IN BERLIN AND BRUSSELS

"Transforming the New Threat Landscape"

From the 4th until the 8th of September, the 3rd "AUSTRALIA-EUROPE COUNTER-TERRORISM DIALOGUE" took place in Berlin and Brussels. In cooperation with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), KAS' Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific brought a high-level delegation of CT policy-makers and experts from Australia to have the opportunity for a fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience about current developments, effective counter-strategies and new collaborative activities.

As part of KAS portfolio in the region, the KAS Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific undertook a project scoping trip to Nadi and Suva.

Upon invitation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, MP Volkmar Klein, Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with Australia and New Zealand, visited New Zealand for a three-day parliamentary exchange and political party dialogue programme which also included roundtable discussions with leaders from the business community and foreign/security policy experts.

Auf Einladung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung unter Schirmherrschaft des Bundestagsabgeordneten Volkmar Klein traf am Freitag eine hochrangige australische Unternehmerdelegation der Deutsch-Australischen AHK auf Politiker und Vertreter von Ministerien, um in einem Fachgespräch über die aktuellen politischen und wirtschaftlichen Herausforderungen für beide Länder zu diskutieren.

Upon invitation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and under the patronage of German MP Volkmar Klein, a high-ranking delegation of Australian business leaders from the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with German politicians and representatives of various ministries. Am Donnerstag sprach der australische Finanzminister Mathias Cormann im Rahmen eines Frühstücksgesprächs in der Akademie der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung über die Zukunft der Deutsch-Australischen Beziehungen. Gemeinsame Werte und Überzeugungen seien die Grundlage für die erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit, so Cormann in Berlin.

Die Außenministerin Australiens, Julie Bishop, sieht Europa an einem historischen Wendepunkt. Trotz der Bedrohungen durch den Terrorismus, der Krimkrise, den Herausforderungen durch die Migration und den Folgen des Brexits, müsse das europäische Projekt erfolgreich bleiben. Nicht nur ihr Land habe ein Interesse daran, sondern Menschen überall auf der Welt. Der Kontinent müsse gemeinsam mit den USA und Australien leuchtendes Vorbild für Demokratie, Menschenrechte und Freiheit bleiben.

Hochrangige CDU-KAS Delegation zu Besuch in Neuseeland und Australien

Vom 4. bis 12. Februar 2016 besuchten Dr. Klaus Schüler, Bundesgeschäftsführer der CDU Deutschlands, Dr. Gerhard Wahlers, stellvertretender Generalsekretär der KAS und Frank Priess, stellvertretender Hauptabteilungsleiter Europäische und Internationale Zusammenarbeit der KAS Neuseeland und Australien, um die Kontakte zu den Partnerparteien National Party in Neuseeland und Liberal Party in Australien zu vertiefen und über gemeinsame globale Herausforderungen zu sprechen.

Australien ist nicht nur ein Kontinent mit einer vielfältigen Landschaft, sondern hat auch ein hohes wirtschaftliches und innovatives Potential. Davon ist der australische Finanzminister Mathias Cormann überzeugt und will diese Stärke weiter ausbauen. „Unsere derzeitigen Beziehungen zwischen Australien und Deutschland sind gut ausgebaut, aber noch nicht so stark wie sie sein könnten“, sagte Cormann bei einer Veranstaltung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Berlin. Daher warb der australische Finanzminister für intensivere und ehrgeizigere Beziehungen zwischen Deutschland und Australien.
