KAS Australia and the Pacific was pleased to implement, in cooperation with Dialogue Fiji, two-day workshops in Nadi on 'Youth and Democracy in the Pacific'. The event was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, who encouraged the participants to take ownership of democracy. Politically motivated and already active young people from all three subregions of the Pacific had the opportunity to get together to learn from the expert speakers, to present on democracy in their own countries, and to discuss best practices and strategies.
The workshops were followed by a public lecture by Dr Wilhelm Hofmeister at the National University of Samoa on 'Global Shifts and Democratic Governance: European Perspectives and Concerns'.
