Rückblick: KAS Europe Talks
EU-Latin America Relations between Partnership and Geopolitical Rivalries
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of being joined virtually by our colleague Sebastian Grundberger of the KAS Regional Programme Party Support and Democracy in Latin America as well as Director of the KAS Office in Uruguay for our event “KAS Europe Talks: EU-Latin America Relations between Partnership and Geopolitical Rivalries”. Besides recent national developments in Argentina 🇦🇷, Brazil 🇧🇷 and Chile 🇨🇱, we focused on relations to the European Union 🇪🇺 against the backdrop of global challenges like climate change or Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Mr Grundberger underlined the close connection between both continents but also pointed out different standpoints on certain issues. He also stressed the importance of the ratification of the EU-MERCOSUR Agreement 🤝 to ensure further trade relations – among others – in future-oriented fields like renewable energies. 🌿 Thank you very much to Mr Grundberger for sharing his assessment live from Montevideo and to 25 participants, who enriched the discussion with their questions and comments! 🙂

The Role of National Minorities in the European Union
South Tyrol as a role model for other regions?
The Role of National minorities in the European Union is a topic that oftentimes receives less attention than matters that concern a bigger share of the population and/or are supported by more influential groups on a national or European level. At the same time, National minorities are an integral part of European societies and are the living example of the approach “United in diversity”, which applies to the European family as a whole but also to national states.

China´s growing presence in Central and Eastern Europe. A matter of concern?
Conference about Europe's China Strategy
China's economic and political presence has expanded rapidly almost everywhere in the world over the past decade. In the United States, Japan, and even the European Union, attention to its impact has increased. In 2019, the European Commission and the EU diplomatic service published a document simply titled "EU-China - A Strategic Outlook." In it, China is described as a partner, an economic competitor, and a systemic rival.
