Ghana – Die Vorzeigedemokratie plant ein hartes Anti-LGBTQ+-Gesetz

Im August 2021 haben acht Abgeordnete dem ghanaischen Parlament einen Gesetzentwurf vorgelegt, der für die LGBTQ+-Gemeinschaft als auch für deren Unterstützer harte Strafen vorsieht. Das neue Gesetz soll schnellstmöglich das bisherige Gesetz zur Bestrafung Homosexueller in Ghana ablösen. In Ghana, das für seinen demokratischen Fortschritt weithin gelobt wird, gelten große Teile der Bevölkerung als überaus homophob. So ergab eine Erhebung des panafrikanischen Afrobarometers aus den Jahren 2016 sowie 2018, dass lediglich sieben Prozent der ghanaischen Befragten einen Homosexuellen in ihrer Nachbarschaft dulden würden. Folglich erscheint es unter diesem Gesichtspunkt als sehr wahrscheinlich, dass das gesetzliche Verbot für die LGBTQ+ Gemeinschaft in Ghana bald harte Realität wird.

Die Ergebnisse der achten Präsidentschafts- und Parlamentswahlen Ghanas sind knapp 48 Stunden nach Schließung der Wahllokale offiziell von der ghanaischen Wahlkommission verkündet worden: Der amtierende Präsident Akufo-Addo ist mit 51,59% der Stimmen wiedergewählt worden und wird in vier Wochen zum zweiten Mal zum Präsidenten Ghanas ernannt werden. NDC-Kandidat Mahama kam auf 47,36% der Stimmen. Allerdings hat die regierende NPP herbe Verluste bei den Parlamentswahlen erleiden müssen.
