Workshop
Details
Background and Objectives of the Workshop
Culture contributes so much to the overall economic growth of the nation but yet receives scant attention. It remains much misunderstood, underexploited, unrecognized and always relegated to the background during the determination of government’s topmost priorities. If a nation without a culture is like a tree without roots, then culture should not be taken for granted. Culture has to be integrated into all relevant aspects of national development planning processes.
This workshop which seeks to integrate culture into all relevant aspects of national development planning processes is premised on previous Culture and Development Workshops organized with sponsorship from Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for Regional Directors, District Cultural Officers and District Planning Officers in Ghana between 2003 and 2009 as shown below:
1)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers and Regional Directors (Southern Sector) at the Elmina Beach Resort from 19-23 October, 2003.
2)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers and Regional Directors (Northern Sector) at the Hotel Georgia, Kumasi from 5-8 November, 2003.
3)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Cultural Officers (Northern Sector) at Dery Hotel, Techiman from 4-7 April, 2004.
4)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Cultural Officers (Southern Sector) at Paramount Hotel, Accra from 20-23 April, 2004.
5)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers, District Coordinating Directors and District Cultural Officers from Upper East and West Regions at Tietaa Conference Centre, Bolgatanga from 06 - 08 April, 2009.
6)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers, District Coordinating Directors and District Cultural Officers from Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions at Marigold Hotel, Kumasi from 28-30 July, 2009.
7)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers, District Coordinating Directors and District Cultural Officers from Central and Western Regions at Sanaa Lodge, Cape Coast from 28-30 September, 2009.
8)Workshop on Culture and Development for District Planning Officers, District Coordinating Directors and District Cultural Officers from Volta and Greater Accra Regions at Freedom Hotel, Ho from 20th– 22nd April, 2010.
The workshop therefore aims at achieving the following objectives:
1)Sensitizing participants as to how to integrate culture into the various domains of national development planning processes in order to accelerate poverty reduction and wealth creation.
2)Creating institutional linkages with the District Assemblies for effective cultural administration.
3)Evolving mutually beneficial cultural programmes and activities to accelerate poverty reduction and wealth creation at the grassroot level.
