Delegation Trip to Berlin – New Impulses for Greek-German-Cypriot Cooperation
Berlin, June 23–25, 2025

From June 23 to 25, 2025, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Foreign Office for Greece and Cyprus organized a delegation trip to Berlin. The delegation included leading foreign and security policy experts, as well as representatives from the most prominent think tanks in Greece and Cyprus. It was further complemented by selected journalists specializing in European and international affairs.

Objectives and Context

The aim of the delegation was to intensify dialogue between the political and academic communities of Greece, Cyprus, and Germany, and to explore common perspectives in foreign and security policy. The trip took place against the backdrop of a shifting geopolitical environment and recent political developments in Germany, which offer new opportunities for cooperation at the European level.

Greek-German relations are historically rooted and marked by both periods of challenge and mutual understanding. Today, they represent a multifaceted field of cooperation, underscored by the need for closer coordination on issues such as migration, the energy transition, the climate crisis, European security, and economic development.

The Role of Greece and Cyprus in the Regional Context

In recent years, Greece has established itself as a reliable partner and a pillar of stability in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region, thanks to its political stability and economic recovery. Despite the unresolved Cyprus issue, the Republic of Cyprus continues to strengthen its geopolitical position, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

The Role of Think Tanks and the Media

A central goal of the delegation trip was to promote a substantive dialogue on key foreign policy issues. The participating think tanks play an important role in shaping joint positions and deepening mutual understanding.

The inclusion of specialized journalists contributed to bringing these discussions into the public sphere, helping to foster a broader and more informed understanding of international dynamics. This highlights the importance of an informed political discourse across national borders.

Outlook

The delegation trip proved to be a valuable catalyst for Greek-German-Cypriot cooperation. The numerous discussions and networking opportunities strengthened the foundation for future collaboration at the political, academic, and media levels. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation will continue to actively support and promote this dialogue in the future
