The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Foreign Office for Greece and Cyprus) is organizing a delegation trip to Berlin from June 23 to 25, 2025. The delegation will include leading experts and representatives from the most prominent think tanks in Greece and Cyprus in the field of foreign and security policy. Selected journalists specializing in European and international affairs will also participate in the delegation.
Greek-German relations represent a complex field of cooperation, shaped by historical challenges as well as moments of mutual understanding and progress. Despite the burden of the past, both countries have succeeded in building stable bridges of dialogue that have had a positive impact on both the bilateral and European levels. Current challenges—such as managing migration flows, the energy transition, the climate crisis, European security, and economic cooperation—highlight the need for closer coordination and the strengthening of strategic partnerships between Greece, Cyprus, and Germany.
Greece's political stability and the economic dynamism it has demonstrated in recent years have reinforced its role as a reliable partner and a pillar of stability in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region. At the same time, the Republic of Cyprus—despite the unresolved Cyprus issue—continues to expand its geopolitical position and is gaining increasing influence in European and regional contexts, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
In this complex geopolitical environment, new perspectives are emerging for the establishment of a substantive and multifaceted dialogue between the countries on issues of shared interest. The active involvement of think tanks can play a key role in deepening mutual understanding and in developing joint approaches to major international developments.
The recent elections in Germany and the resulting changes in the political landscape promise new opportunities to strengthen cooperation, based on shared democratic values and a common European strategic orientation. The planned delegation trip is intended to serve as a catalyst for further networking between the political and academic communities of Greece, Cyprus, and Germany.
Beyond the exchange of views and the search for common positions, the participation of journalists specializing in international relations and European politics provides additional value: it strengthens public understanding and contributes to creating a more informed and meaningful framework for political discourse.
