On the occasion of the centenary of Thessaloniki’s integration in 1912, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, in cooperation with Navarino Network and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, organized the 1st Thessaloniki International Symposium in World Affairs.
The Symposium revolved around three broad thematic axes. Jonathan Spence, Professor of History at Yale University introduced the topic of the Rise of China. James Piscatori, Professor of International Relations at Durham University gave a lecture on Islam and the Arab Spring. On the final third day of the Symposium Loukas Tsoukalis, President of ELIAMEP and Professor at the University of Athens discussed about the Decline of the West and Europe.
The lecture theatre was filled by a young audience that was very keen on listening to the lectures of the professors and was even more keen to participate in the discussions and pose questions.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, along with Navarino Network aspire to make the Thessaloniki Symposium in World Affairs an annual event that will function as the epicentre of Thessaloniki's international and global spirit.
