Immediately after the nomination of the new leadership of the People's Republic of China, the KAS Japan Office in cooperation with the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) held a closed experts' meeting on the question: What to Expect from China After the Leadership Change?

The meeting was jointly moderated by Mr. Hideki Asari, Deputy Director General of JIIA, and Mr. Jörg Wolff, KAS Resident Representative for Japan, and open by Minister and Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the German Embassy in Tokyo, Mr. Stefan Herzberg.

The focus of the discussion was laid on the presentations of

  • Mr. Johnny Erling, China Correspondent, Die Welt
  • Dr. Peter Roell, President, Institute for strategic, political, security and economic consultancy (ISPSW)
  • Dr. Sabine Stricker-Kellerer, Senior China Counsel, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Munich; Deputy Chairperson, External Economics Relations Advisory Board, Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology
as well as Japanese China-experts on the expactions with regards to economy, society and security policy after the transition of government to the new leadership generation.
