Democratic states and free and independent Media are closely interlinked and interacting. The diversity and quality of the Media is essential for constituting a broadly, diversely and well informed public. To ensure that Media can properly fulfill their information and education function it is of utmost importance to develop and implement democratic regulations that assure diversity and pluralism of programs to strengthen the free formation of opinions.
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Cambodia and Dr. Andreas Oldag, Senior German Journalist, have cooperated to conduct a research and analysis on “Freedom of the Press and Media Regulation in Cambodia: Approaches and Options for Democratic Diversity”. Through such an analysis the authors aim to expedite the development and acceptance of a transparent and democratic Media regulation in Cambodia. Moreover, the study offers practical ideas and options for Cambodia lawmakers, journalists and other media professionals on how to create and develop such a political and legal framework.
The launch of the publication will present the study’s results and recommendations, particularly related to pluralism and program diversity. Additionally, the event aims at collecting ideas and feedback on the study’s recommendations from a diverse range of different stakeholders.
The expected result of the launch is a clear and comprehensive understanding of the study’s results and recommendations among the participants. Relatedly, to initiate a dialogue on the necessity of policy development and internal regulations for TV and radio stations will improve the quality of pluralistic and diverse program offers in Cambodia.
