Details

The plot of the movie is set in the last century of the German Democratic Republic, the former ‘East Germany’. An agent of the secret police observes a writer and his lover. He finds himself becoming increasingly absorbed by their lives, more and more questioning his work. The film shows how a dictatorship affects people’s lives, the lives of those operating in the regime’s name as well as the lives of those being suppressed by it.

After the screening, Dr. Karsten Dümmel will avail himself for a Q&A session with the audience. Dr. Dümmel grew up in the German Democratic Republic where he suffered from repression, was sentenced to imprisonment and finally ransomed by the Federal Republic of Germany shortly before the German reunification.
