On the first day of his visit, Stockemer participated as a keynote speaker at the conference "Foreign Workers from Asia in Croatia – Opportunities, Challenges, and the Future," organized by KAS in cooperation with the Institute for Migration Research (IMIM). In his speech, he presented successful examples of integration from Canada and provided insights into proven strategies for dealing with foreign labor.
The second day of his visit was dedicated to his main lecture at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb. There, Professor Stockemer gave a talk on "Democratic Discontent: Youth, Populism, and Conspiracy Theories." In his lecture, he examined the dangers and societal impacts of populism and emphasized its growing spread across all generations. At the same time, he highlighted significant differences between younger and older populists: while the younger generation shows greater interest in political issues and tends toward more radical actions, older populists are primarily dissatisfied with democracy and show less trust in the government.
Stockemer also noted a particularly high susceptibility to conspiracy theories among young people—a trend that he suggested may be directly linked to their stronger inclination toward more radical forms of political engagement.
