The event took place as the final conference of a total of four meetings on the issue of reviving and strengthening the Lebanese economy. While the first two conferences focused on the accession of Lebanon to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and rural development and decentralization of the country, the third conference was all about traffic and public transportation and the fourth conference dealt with the issue of vocational training. The guests were welcomed by the President of Kataeb MP Samy Gemayel, former Minister of Finance, HE Demianos Kattar, former Minister of Economy and Trade and MP HE Nicolas Nahas, as well as by Mr. Jean Tawile, Head of Economic & Social Council at Kataeb and the Resident Representative of the KAS in Lebanon, Dr. Malte Gaier.

After the introductory speeches on the current state of the economic situation by economists Dr. Demianos Kattar,Nicolas Nahhas and Dr. Elie Yachoui, the moderator o the conference business news anchor and Head of the Financial News Department at MTV Lebanon, Jessy Trad gave floor to the participants for them to make comments and ask further questions on the topic. Inputs for demonstration purposes were accompanied by figures and financial data. The economic crisis, Lebanon is currently facing, emerged from dysfunctional investments while high inflation rates caused by new taxes and increasing gas prices left the country to a state of stagflation. Numerous statements expressed concerns about the educational system in Lebanon and the high unemployment rate among the youth. Therefore it is considered necessary to reform the educational system and to provide access to a big variety of perspectives for the youth. Furthermore the current problem of tax evasion as well as the real exchange value of the Lebanese Pound taking into account the purchasing power parity was brought into the discussion. The Lebanese private sector especially agriculture and industry is not competitive on the international market, therefore Dr. Elie Yachoui advocated for a reduction in production costs through anti-corruption, infrastructure development and cheap credits. However, these reforms can only be realized by reforming the public sector.

One of the participants mentioned that actively fighting corruption would stimulate the general climate of investment. Taking into account the difficult financial situation of the Lebanese state, public-private partnerships could serve as a solution since they give the government the opportunity to delegate financial investments to private actors. All the participants agreed that a national plan in which all players of society would work together is necessary in order to overcome the current stagflation crisis Lebanon is facing.
