On 17th January, KAS Malaysia had the privilege of facilitating constructive dialogue sessions between our valuable local partners and a delegation from KAS Indo-Pacific Advisory Group Korea, led by Thomas Yoshimura. The visiting delegation that comprised Dr. Jaehyon Lee, Dr. Young-Hee Chang, Dr. Yoon Jung Choi, Dr. Jeonghun Min, and Dr. Eunmi Choi, met with local security experts as part of their comprehensive study on Risk & Threat Perception in the Indo-Pacific region. During these sessions, we met with the researchers of the Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia. Following that, we had a roundtable discussion with Dr.Cheng-Chwee Kuik from the Institute of Malaysian & International Studies (IKMAS) at UKM as well as his colleagues at the East Asian International Relations (EAIR) Caucus, Dr Chiew Ping HOO and Assoc. Prof. Dr Ngeow Chow Bing. Over dinner, we had a discussion with Dr. Yap Leong Tay from the Malaysian Institute of Defence & Security (MIDAS). We also had the opportunity of hosting a lunch meeting with LtCol Kai Nordsiek, Defense Attaché from the German Embassy Kuala Lumpur, Timo Goosmann, Minister Counsellor from the Delegation of the EU to Malaysia, and Sukyung Lee, Second Secretary from the Korean Embassy Kuala Lumpur.

The dialogue sessions explored insights into the diverse perceptions on risks and threats among Indo-Pacific nations, and the significant impact of these perceptions on regional policymaking and strategic decisions within respective countries.

We hope that dialogues and cross-learning on this significant regional matter is continuously advanced by security experts.
