On 20th December 2025, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Malaysia successfully convened Why Should I Care About Mis- & Dis-Information?, the latest session in the Why Should I Care? youth series, bringing together young Malaysians for critical discussion on the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation in today’s digital landscape.
Facilitated by Nalini Elumalai, Senior Malaysia Programme Officer at ARTICLE 19, the session provided participants with a deeper understanding of how false and misleading information operates within Malaysia’s information ecosystem, particularly in relation to freedom of expression, hate speech, and democratic participation.
Key outcomes of the session included:
- Enhanced awareness of the mechanisms and motivations behind mis- and disinformation
- Strengthened media literacy skills, including fact-checking and source verification
- Increased understanding of the impact of false information on social cohesion and democracy
- Greater confidence among participants to act responsibly and critically in digital spaces
Through a combination of expert input and interactive discussions, participants were encouraged to reflect on our habits and the role we play in safeguarding truth and integrity.
KAS Malaysia remains committed to supporting youth engagement and creating spaces for thoughtful dialogue on issues that shape our democratic and social future.
