The Bulgarian partners of the initiative – Media Development Center and European Alternatives Bulgaria, asked the question whether media pluralism is a national or a European issue and called media pluralism a citizens’ right. Dr. Anna Lodeserto, chief coordinator of the initiative on EU level, gave an overview of the current state of the project in all countries and encouraged to continue the efforts.
The citizens’ initiative for media pluralism was supported by two Bulgarian members of the European Parliament from the EPP group, Dr. Andrey Kovachev and Svetloslav Malinov – through their signatures as well as the promise to back the initiative at Parliament debates. “Media pluralism is the basis for active participation of citizens in political processes in information society” said Christian Spahr, head of the KAS Media Program South East Europe. He joined the MEPs in supporting the initiative.
