The reach of political journalism in the region - Media Programme Southeast Europe
Workshop
Details
That is why, it is so important that media are free, pluralistic and independent and that journalists stick to ethical principles, in order to fulfill their duty – to deliver objective and professional media coverage.
Unfortunately, media in South East Europe belong to one of the most fragile parts of society before and after the fall of the wall. Journalists and media in the region are often among the most affected by economical crisis, civil conflicts and political influences. The financial condition of media in South East Europe is mostly unstable, which makes them very vulnerable for political games of power and oligarch’s interests. Professional journalistic ethics are often put under pressure, the integrity of journalists is being abused. As a result one gets subjectivity of media coverage, self-censorship, poor working conditions, descending quality of the products, coming from the current pressure of loosing one’s job. The neglect of professional journalistic standards and quality journalism in the region are being strongly criticized by the international monitoring organizations, as Reporters Without Borders.
The Media Program South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, KAS Serbia and Balkan Media Tim organize a workshop for political journalists from the region, editors-in-chief of Montenegrin visual and print media, representatives of the Montenegrin government, responsible for media, media experts and analysts.
