Alternative financing models in the media sector are becoming increasingly attractive. More media in South East Europe, especially in the online sector, are no longer financed solely by advertising or subscriptions. Therefore, the KAS Media Programme South East Europe focused on the topic of "Online Fundraising for media outlets" at its partner session at this year's Global Media Forum of Deutsche Welle on June 14th. The two speakers Maja Ledjenac and Norbert Sinkovic from Serbia underlined above all the importance of such financing models for the survival of smaller local media. They explained the media situation in South East Europe by commenting on some of the challenges faced by journalists in the region, such as the high level of distrust towards the media and the constant political pressure. Especially in such cases, a stable community based on solidarity as well as alternative sources of income, for example through donations, are important. In a video produced especially for the session, media representatives from South East Europe reported on their successful financing models and how they try not to lose contact with their users.
