Speakers were Dr. Susanne Spahn, a German journalist and political scientist, Yevgen Fedchenko, a Ukrainian media expert and co-founder of the internet platform Stopfake.org, and Dr. Alexey Dolinskiy, a Russian political analyst. The discussion was moderated by Christian Spahr, Head of the Media Program South East Europe.
The debate focused on the question which strategies in politics and media are appropriate to counter propaganda effectively and how to ensure truthful reporting. Thereby Russian, Ukrainian and German perspectives were considered. Besides that, best practices were presented and recommendations for journalists were discussed. Other topics were the expertise of Western European reporters in the Ukraine crisis, the perspective of European journalists on Russia and the development of media freedom in both Russia and Ukraine.
The Global Media Forum is an international media conference of Germany's international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, attended by more than 2.000 visitors. This year’s conference took place at the World Conference Center in Bonn from 22 to 24 June. The topic was "Media and Foreign Policy in the Digital Age". The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has already cooperated with Deutsche Welle in the past and organised panel discussions at previous conferences.
