Workshop
From Track to Trade: Unlocking the Potential of the Lobito Corridor
Advancing regional integration through sustainable economic development
On November 5–6, 2025, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted the second workshop on the Lobito Corridor at the Mont’Luvili Hotel in Huambo, Angola. Building on the momentum of the first workshop in 2024, this event gathered government officials, business leaders, academics, and community representatives to explore how the Lobito Corridor can become a driver of regional trade and sustainable development.
Â
The discussions highlighted the corridor’s potential to transform local economies by strengthening agricultural value chains, improving transport infrastructure, and creating opportunities for processing and light industries. Participants engaged in round tables and working groups, sharing perspectives on practical steps to unlock these opportunities. A visit to strategic points along the corridor provided a tangible sense of its importance for Angola and the wider region.
Â
A special moment of the workshop was the engagement with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his delegation. Their presence underscored the European commitment to the Lobito Corridor within the Global Gateway Initiative and reinforced Angola’s strategic role in regional and global trade networks.
Â
This workshop took place just before the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence—a milestone that reminds us of the country’s resilience and its aspirations for inclusive growth. The event concluded with clear recommendations and a shared vision: to turn the Lobito Corridor into a pathway for trade, jobs, and prosperity.
