What will the future look like?

Recent incidents such as the liquidation of the SME Bank and rising renting prices for business owners make it increasingly hard for Namibian Small and Medium Entrepreneurs to start and operate successful businesses.

Details

Considering the high unemployment rates, specifically among the youth, and the technical recession in Namibia, these developments counter the NDP5, Vision 2030 or the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP), which promote SME activities to foster youth employment and to ensure stable economic growth.

Before this background, the event aims to answer questions such as "What is the general importance of SMEs for the Namibian economy?", "What legal procedure does the liquidation of the SME Bank follow and what consequences does it have for Namibian entrepreneurs?", "What alternatives do small and medium entrepreneurs have now?", and "What are possible solutions and ways forward for the current SME crisis?".

Panelists will be Ms. Asnath Zamuee (Secretary General of the Namibia Financial Institutions Union), a representative of the Namibian Chamber for Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Mr. Edwin Kavihuha (Namibia Business Innovation Institute), various SME representatives as well as legal and economic experts.
